"Childless Cat Ladies" UNITE.
*hiss* The viral comment by Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance everyone is talking about...
According to JD Vance (or who I like to call that weird guy from Ohio), the Democratic party is filled with “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too." Umm, clearly, JD has never had a pet cat before. What trauma did he endure as a child? Perhaps someone who claims others are miserable is hiding their own misery. But you didn't hear it from me. Someone loves to project, eh? Doesn’t he know that cats are, in fact, lil ol’ babies?
Let’s think - what is a good clapback for this one…
I’ve got one! Badass Chelsea Handler came at Vance with a thrilling comeback on X, stating, “I’d like to remind you that no president in the history of the United States has ever been a mother,” Handler tweeted. I mean…🔥
Chelsea, we need more of this…please!!
I know all you cat moms and dads out there were looking like this when you saw the 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson resurface on your feed…
It's no surprise that century-long stereotypes continue to persist. So, where does this sexist trope even come from? It all started around the 19th Century Victorian Era. During this time, unmarried women who possessed feline companions were perceived as emblematic of enduring singleness. By the 20th century, women gained increased autonomy and were stepping into new roles beyond just the proverbial housewife. They were able to vote, enter the workforce, and attend college. Ultimately, they challenged many social norms that many men weren’t expecting or necessarily wanting. Cats frequently appeared in negative portrayals of women advocating for their independence in the media and were often featured in criticisms of the women’s suffrage movement. The history behind the ‘cat-lady’ is truly fascinating (and disappointing), but I encourage you to look more into it if you’re curious.
In any case, this isn’t a blog post telling you how or how not to vote in November. All I can say is that Vance is very lucky that cats are unable to cast their own ballots on November 5th.
I’m not here to shove more political news down your throat - I’m sure you’ve had enough of that. I hope this brings a smile to your face and adds some fun to your serious days.
Make America Purr Again? See you at the polls. 🗳️
